諾曼，英國人，語言學教授。他是23年前我們在北京友誼賓館的鄰居。當時，他和威廉一樣都是＂外國專家＂。威廉在新華社工作，他代表英國大使館與北京第二外國語學院合作，設立了一個英文培訓課程。
1999年7月的一天是諾曼的60大壽，我們邀請他來箭扣長城腳下的農家院共度週末，為他慶生。作為回報，他選擇了一個曲子填寫了新的歌詞，來表達對我們一家人的喜愛和謝意。

1999年7月，60歲生日於北京
實際上我應當在第二年8月請諾曼再加上一段新的歌詞。因為我照顧傑米六年之後，改變了原先只要一個孩子的主意。我們的老二湯米在2000年8月份出生了。

前不久，威廉給居住在萬里之遙的英國諾曼寫郵件，請他在那首歌裡新增上“湯米”，他不但回覆了，還加寫了兩段歌詞，還說他請他能歌善舞的兒子為我們演唱這首歌，並錄製下來…。
